Composition, Edges, Shapes & Tone
Join figurative artist Katie James for a two-day workshop exploring a unique approach to still life painting through a series of short, repetitive exercises that develop your understanding of composition, tone, shape, and edge.
Beginning with a selection of quick charcoal tonal studies, you’ll learn to simplify what you see into strong, interconnected shapes. These exercises will lead into a final painting in either oils, acrylics, or a combination of both, where form is created through the relationship between edge-to-edge shapes of tone and colour rather than through line.
This workshop is suitable for artists looking to strengthen their observational skills, simplify complex subjects, and gain confidence in creating dynamic, expressive still life paintings.
All materials and equipment is provided but please feel free to bring your favourite brushes and an apron.
The days will run from 10 am -4.30pm ish with breaks for refreshments and lunch which is also included. Please let us know of any dietary requirements.
