KATIE JAMES studied at Camberwell and Central St Martins Schools of Art and completed a portrait diploma at Heatherleys School of Fine Art in 2021. She prefers to paint landscapes, still life and portraits in oil and acrylics directly from life, alla prima. Katie is a passionate colourist whilst also observing good drawing. She adores capturing the light and identifying both negative and positive shapes to create a strong sense of structure, form and the inner personality of her subjects.
In 2023 Katie won The People’s Choice Award in the Barnes Artists Living with Trees Art Show and in 2022 the Maze Gallery Best Abstract Award in the Barnes Artists Living with Water exhibition. Twice a finalist in The Diana Armfield RA NEAC Prize for Drawing from Observation and winner of The Chelsea Arts Society Green and Stone prize for Best Oil Painting and The Boécho Gallery Prize for Best Pet Portrait.
