Dates: April 25/26/27th 2024 Thursday/Friday/Saturday
We are delighted to announce an incredible opportunity to participate in a 3-day printmaking course with Emerson Mayes. Over three days you will learn the techniques and methods which Emerson uses to produce his award-winning wildlife work.
The Course is suitable for both beginners and more advanced artists and will be a very ‘hands-on’ experience. The benefit of working over 3 days means it will give you a more intense and immersive printmaking experience.
Day One – Drypoint
What is drypoint?
As the name suggests, drypoint is literally, drawing with a dry point–which, when inked, can be printed from again and again. Think of it as an etching without the acid and produces a soft, feathery line. It is one of the simplest and most direct forms of intaglio printmaking. You will be guided through the process of producing your own image and create a small edition of prints.
Day Two – Monotype
Monotype is a printmaking technique known for its painterly quality where a unique print is achieved. Prints can be produced ‘negatively’ by wiping paint/ink away or ‘positively’ by adding paint/ink to the printing plate. Emerson will take you through all the stages of the technique and allow you the time to produce at least one ink-based monotype and at least one paint-based monotype.
Day Three – Drypoint/Monotype
On day three you will learn how to combine the linear drypoint with the painterly aspects of a monotype. Emerson will take you through the process of combining the two techniques giving you a chance to produce a small edition of your own prints.
The days will run from 10 am until 4.30 pm in the main studio, all materials will be provided, but please bring your own notebook and apron.
Delicious, locally sourced lunches and hot drinks are also included.
Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
