Date Thursday 18th April 2024
Jill has been teaching ceramics for 23 years to adults and children and has lots of experience guiding both newcomers to ceramics as well as more experienced students in the many hand building techniques. Your workshop will include expert tuition, all the materials needed for the project and the glazing and firing of finished work, rendering your creations dishwasher safe and waterproof.
Items are collected from the Limes once finished, usually 2-3 weeks later. Workshops are an enjoyable way to spend a creative day with friends and make a ceramic piece for your home or to give away to family or friends.
Porcelain wall piece
Make a Landscape wall piece
Duration 6 hours
Allow your artistic nature to flourish as you make a beautiful porcelain wall piece depicting a favourite landscape, creating unique and personal work of art.
Learn three different techniques for creating texture onto porcelain and how to incorporate them into a beautiful design. The wall pieces can be hung directly on the wall or framed for a more formal effect.
During the morning session Jill will teach you three decorative ceramic techniques : carving, slip transfers and the Korean technique of mishima. Each technique can be practiced on small clay tiles and you have the opportunity to discuss and work out your personal design. We then take a break for lunch provided by The Limes. Afterwards you will roll out a porcelain tile and then apply your design onto the leather hard surface, with expert guidance from Jill. Ceramic stains, oxides and glazes will be applied to give colour and a glossy finish to your landscape.
The tiles are then fired in the kiln at Jill’s pottery and can be collected later from The Limes. The wall pieces can be hung directly on the wall or mounted on a frame for a more formal effect.
The wall pieces will be taken back to Jill’s pottery to be glazed and can be collected later from The Limes.
